I have always loved how knitwear photographs – it adds such great texture to an image – and sweater dresses are such an easy staple for an indoor winter shoot. I envision many of these paired with jeans and a sweater for men, jeans and a tee or sweater for little boys, and a fun dress or a tulle skirt and sweater for little girls.

Today I am sharing some of my favorite photos of Aquinnah and Shaw – now 14 and 12 – who have been shooting with me every year for the last four years. Parents often tell me how much they love being able to look back and watch their children grow up in front of my lens; these photos show a little glimpse into that experience.

I look forward to compiling my Favorite Portraits post every year. As I put this year’s post together, I reflected on how grateful I am to have been able to safely capture so many moments of joy throughout this challenging year. It is never lost on me what a privilege it is to be behind the camera, transforming so many fleeting moments into treasured memories.

Now that it’s safest to photograph families outdoors and at a distance, all of my shoots have been taking place in parks or backyards. I have been recommending that families bring a big light-colored or white blanket to their shoots, so I thought I would share a few options.

Today’s family series features adorable Sienna and her sweet family over the years. Our first two shoots were in the fall: outside in Central park by the boat pond, and in the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our two most recent shoots have been beach shoots in Bridgehampton.

Hello and happy first weekend of fall! Lately I have been thinking about how I can help answer my most frequently asked photography question: “What should I wear to my shoot?”. I thought I would start a series sharing pieces that I know will photograph well. I hope these beautiful sweaters spark ideas – either for treating yourself to something new, or shopping your own closet.
